Legionella Tap Filters and Replacements

At AquaCert, our goal is to provide simple yet effective solutions to ensure the quality of our clients’ water supply. This is why we offer lab-tested and certified Legionella filters for taps to enable hospitals, care homes and other facilities that rely on safe and clean water to protect themselves from harmful pathogens and waterborne bacteria.

Legionella, the bacteria responsible for a severe type of pneumonia called Legionnaires’ disease, occurs naturally in lakes, streams and other freshwater environments. While low amounts of these bacteria in freshwater don’t pose a serious risk, they can cause severe health problems when they contaminate a building’s water systems.

Legionella Tap Filter
Taps and showerheads, particularly those that are rarely used, can serve as a breeding ground for Legionella. As they produce aerosols, they can also help spread waterborne diseases. This is why many health experts recommend installing a Legionella tap filter to prevent Legionella contamination and the spread of other waterborne diseases.

Legionella tap filters are beneficial for two main reasons:

  • Clinical for example, in healthcare facilities, it is imperative to always ensure that the water supply is free from bacteria and other contaminants.
  • Non-clinical if harmful pathogens are found in your water system, a Legionella tap water filter can help you remain operational while you address the issue.

Protect your water systems with AquaCert’s POU water filters

In the UK, hospitals regularly conduct routine tests and perform remedial work (for example, disinfecting taps and showerheads) to help prevent Legionella and other harmful bacteria contamination. However, this type of work can often be tedious and time-consuming. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that it will be 100% successful.

Point-of-Use (POU) water filters, such as the AquaCert Legionella tap filter system, have traditionally been used as temporary but reliable and immediate protection while healthcare facilities address a potential outbreak. However, because these filters are so effective, more and more hospitals and healthcare facilities are utilising them as a permanent solution and to ensure they have safe and clean water.

AquaCert’s tap water filter systems contain filtration materials so fine they can trap bacteria and prevent them from reaching users. They can also capture small particles of sediment, rust and scale. Besides Legionella, our water filters can also prevent the spread of other harmful bacteria, including:

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • E.coli
  • Stenotrophomonas
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Leptospira
  • Clostridium difficile (C.diff)
  • Campylobacter
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae

Developed using the highest standards and the most advanced manufacturing technology, our Legionella tap filter systems contain hollow fibres with pore sizes of 0.15 microns. These fibres prevent both organic and inorganic contamination while ensuring a high flow rate and no drop in water pressure.

When to replace your tap filter

Legionella in tap water is a serious problem and must be addressed as quickly as possible. Installation of AquaCert’s tap filters, can prevent patients/residents from becoming ill. As an added bonus, you will not be subjected to an expensive legal claim from a patient who has contracted a disease that is so easily avoidable.

Nevertheless, POU filters should not remain in use for a long time. Ideally, they should be replaced periodically to ensure maximum protection from harmful pathogens. How frequently you need to replace the filters will depend on your facility’s water quality. In the majority of cases, our filters last longer when there is good, clean and sediment-free water rather than with water from an untreated borehole feed. For instance, in hospitals, AquaCert’s filter tap water replacement system can last up to six months.

When a significant amount of sediment and bacteria have accumulated in the tap filter, there will be a noticeable decline in water flow. When this happens, it is advisable to replace the tap filter as soon as possible to ensure continued protection.

What type of tap filter do you need?

The Tap-Safe filter system also comes with three free adaptors, making it compatible with all conventional UK taps. For more information, explore the tap filter’s unique features and capabilities.

Tap-Safe Replacement Filter

In contrast to other products, there is no need to dispose of a perfectly serviceable filter housing when the AquaCert’s tap water filter system comes to the end of its service life. All you need to do is install our tap water filter replacement. Not only is this more environmentally friendly, but it is also more cost-effective as fitting a replacement is considerably less expensive than purchasing a completely new product.

Equipped with the same filtration material as the one found in the Tap-Safe (Chrome) tap water filter system, the replacement filter offers protection Legionella bacteria and other harmful pathogens, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E.coli and Stenotrophomonas.
